Based in Chicago’s Loop at the James R. Thompson Center, , The Illinois Department of Public Health has a tremendous opportunity for two internships through a collaboration of the Office of the Chief Counsel, Illinois Department of Public Health and the General Counsel of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board.
Second year law students are sought who have an interest in health care, and health care regulatory concerns. The successful candidates will witness first-hand the demanding day-to-day activities of an in-house corporate legal staff and experience how many regulatory issues arise and are resolved.
Interns will develop legal memoranda on various questions posed by the Chief Counsel’s staff in many areas including facilities regulation. Further, the interns will perform legal research and draft policies and procedures and draft legal memoranda. The interns will gain knowledge in many health care regulatory matters, including but not limited to HIPAA, DPH regulatory statutes and rules, conflicts of interest and research compliance. An opportunity will exist to customize part of the interns’ duties to articulated interests.
Experience Required: Legal research experience is a must. Time management and problem-solving skills are expected.
Transportation: Conveniently located at the Clark and Lake CTA Hub.
Other: The Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals for paid and unpaid position. Internships are for approximately 15 hours a week each and are completed over the course of an academic semester. Within the guidelines established by the Chief Counsel and the school, flexible scheduling can be arranged.
