Our Mission

Promoting healthy people and healthy communities through dialogue, partnerships, education, and research in public health law.

PHLA was established because law is fundamental to the origin, understanding and delivery of public health services. Law improves the likelihood that individuals can lead healthy, long, and productive lives. Better understanding of the law, government, the policy-making process, and the role of attorneys in support of their public health clientele improves the public's health.

PHLA was incorporated in the District of Columbia in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association. Donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.

PHLA is governed by a Board of Directors. PHLA staff and committees work to provide information and resources to benefit those working in public health law and policy. PHLA hosts and works collaboratively with other organizations on conferences and teleconferences.
